Algebra A
A full year course for students in grades 8-12 that is the first part of a two-credit algebra course. Algebra B is the second part of a two-credit algebra course. Students who successfully complete Algebra A and Algebra B will meet the Algebra I requirement for graduation. Students will be able to describe and translate among graphic, algebraic, numeric, tabular, and verbal representations of relations and use those representations to solve problems. The process of collecting and analyzing data will be embedded throughout this course. Appropriate technology and manipulatives will be used regularly for instruction and assessment. Students will be able to judge the meaning, utility, and reasonableness of the results of symbol manipulations, including those carried out by technology.
Pre-AP Algebra I
A full year course for students in grades 8-12 that should adequately prepare students for Geometry and Algebra II.
Algebra B
A full year course for students in grades 9-12 that is the second part of a two-credit algebra course. Appropriate technology and manipulatives should be used regularly for instruction and assessment. Students will be able to judge the meaning, utility, and reasonableness of the results of symbol manipulations, including those carried out by technology.
Prerequisite: Algebra A
Algebra II
A full year course for students in grades 10-12 that builds on basic concepts learned in Algebra I. Students will be able to represent and analyze mathematical situations, analyze and apply a variety of methods to model and graph linear and non-linear functions, use algebraic, graphical and numerical methods for analysis of quadratic equations and functions and polynomials and rational functions, and exponential functions, logarithmic functions, data analysis and probability will be explored.
Prerequisite: Pre-AP Algebra I, or Algebra A and Algebra B
Geometry
A full year course for students in grades 10-12 that studies shapes and solids and how they relate to the real world. This course will help students develop communication skills, enhance reasoning and make connections within mathematics to other disciplines and the real world. Students will use physical models and appropriate technology to investigate geometric concepts in problem solving situations.
Prerequisite: Pre-AP Algebra I, or Algebra A and Algebra B
Algebraic Connections
A full year course for students in grades 11 and 12 that will build on a foundation of previously taught Algebra and Geometry concepts, enlarge upon the development of each concept, and introduce new concepts. Students will be expected to evaluate data, interpret data, analyze linear functions, write and solve equations and inequalities and their systems, and use algebraic, graphical, and numerical methods for analysis.
Prerequisite: Pre-AP Algebra I, or Algebra A and Algebra B; Geometry
College Algebra
A one semester course for students in grades 11 and 12 that meets the minimum requirement for the associate of arts or bachelor degree students. This course requires thinking at a higher level. The successful completion of this course should prepare students for higher level courses in math, accounting, business and science. It should also enable them to transfer these problem solving thought processes to other areas in their lives. Topics include linear and quadratic equations and inequalities, relations, functions and graphs, conic sections, synthetic division, polynomial functions, matrices and exponential and logarithmic functions. College Algebra is the beginning of an organized thought process.
You must pay tuition to Ozarka College for this course and must have a semester average of C or better in order to receive college credit. This course is worth 3 college credits.
Prerequisite: Pre-AP Algebra I, or Algebra A and Algebra B; Algebra II; A score of 20 or greater on the ACT math section, or 43 or greater on the algebra portion and an 82 on the reading portion of the COMPASS test
College Trigonometry
A one semester course for students in grades 11 and 12 that is the study of angles, right triangles, identities, graphs, equations, inverse functions, polar coordinates and complex numbers. Trigonometry is the foundation for advancement to higher levels of mathematics beyond College Algebra. Trigonometry is an application based course that is a prerequisite for all levels of Calculus. Trigonometry reinforces geometric concepts and allows students to solve problems relating to physics, rotations and surveying.
You must pay tuition to Ozarka College for this course and must have a semester average of C or better in order to receive college credit. This course is worth 3 college credits.
Prerequisite: College Algebra
